African Crowned Crane
I am an African Crowned Crane and I come from Eastern and Southern Africa. I make my home in the savannah, freshwater marshes, wet grasslands, as well as the edge of lakes, ponds, and rivers.
I have a diet of an omnivore which means I eat grasshoppers, flies, millipedes, crabs, as well as grass, seeds, soybeans, and corn.
We are majestic birds despite being one of the smaller crane species as we stand about 95 to 105 cm tall. We have a breeding display that involves dancing, bowing, and jumping.
Scientists consider us to be “living fossils” among cranes since we were able to survive the ice age.
