I am a large water bird known as the black swan. I can grow up to 1.3 meters and we are the only species of swan that is entirely black.
You can usually find my kind and me in lakes, swamps, and rivers in the Southeast and Southwest region of Australia. We are the official birds of Western Australia and are featured on the flag and in the coat of arms.
There’s an interesting fact about us. When we find our mates or partners, we stay with them for life. Our nests for our eggs are then built either on the ground or floating on the water. A young swan is called cygnet and we are very aggressively and fiercely protective of them.
