I am Lebanon’s national animal and I hail mostly from the northern and eastern part of Africa. My kind and I live in savannahs, sub-deserts, areas with thorny shrubs as well as mountains, grasslands, and forests. These are the environment and habitat best suited for us.
Unlike my cousins, the spotted hyenas, we striped hyenas usually don’t make much noise when we are communicating with one another. Instead, we choose to communicate with one another by using our body’s movement to convey messages.
Some of our worst enemies are lions and hunting dogs. In the wild, I can’t live up to 12 years while in captivity, without predators, I can live up to 25 years.
